Escape Room Experience: LDL-Lowering Therapy and Beyond - Applying Advances to Patient Care

Lowering LDL-C effectively and safely is crucial to prevent and lower the risk of adverse cardiovascular events, however, LDL-C goal achievement remains suboptimal, including in high-risk and very high-risk patients. The landscape of LDL-C lowering therapy has significantly evolved, with new consensus statements, newer agents, as well as important evidence that may help address some of the current gaps. Additionally, there is residual risk beyond LDL-C, including elevated triglyceride levels and elevated Lp(a). The latter is being increasingly recognized not only as a risk marker, but also as a potential target of therapy, with several approaches in clinical development.

This activity will review these advances and provide important clinical pearls on the application of lipid-lowering therapy. It consists of two parts: a webcast and an interactive activity modeled after an "escape room format'. During the webcast, faculty experts utilize patient cases to cover recent advances in LDL-C lowering therapy, as well as in addressing Lp(a). As you transition to part 2, you will enter a virtual 'escape room', where you will have a chance to apply some of the concepts discussed in part 1, answer questions behind interactive 'hot spots', and collect clues to 'escape' the room.

Target Audience

US-based healthcare professionals, including cardiologists, endocrinologists, lipidologists, primary care clinicians (PCPs), registered nurses, advanced practice registered nurses, dieticians, pharmacists, and other allied health professionals involved in the management and treatment of cardiometabolic patients.

Learning Objectives

After completing this activity, the participant should be better able to:

  • Recognize the need for the early and adequate intensification of LDL-C lowering therapy beyond statins to address ASCVD risk
  • Evaluate the new approaches with novel LDL-C lowering agents and their potential impact in ASCVD risk reduction
  • Select individualized treatment strategies for hypercholesterolemic patients that prioritize the early initiation and intensification of therapy to reduce ASCVD risk
  • Assess current and emerging therapies to address residual ASCVD risks, including elevated TGs and Lp(a)
