Scratching the Surface of BTK Inhibition for Chronic Spontaneous Urticaria: Beyond Skin Deep

BTK inhibitors have demonstrated great promise for addressing various treatment challenges for chronic urticaria patients by improving symptom control and more effective targeting of disease pathways. To capitalize on the potential treatment benefits of BTK inhibitors, clinicians require expert guidance on the classifications of chronic urticaria to more accurately diagnose CSU, the role of the BTK pathway and the mechanism of BTK inhibitors, clinical data for current and emerging therapies, as well as current treatment gaps and how emerging BTK inhibitors may address common treatment challenges. Led by the foremost experts in treating CSU, this 1-hour educational activity will address the specific pathophysiology of CSU and the BTK pathway, the mechanism of BTK inhibition in CSU disease management, clinical data regarding BTK inhibitors currently being investigated, and the impact of these agents on clinical practice.

Target Audience

This activity is designed for an audience of dermatology and allergy specialists, including physicians, nurses, and other advanced practice providers (nurse practitioners/physician assistants) who may treat CSU.

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of the educational activity, participants should be better able to:

  • Describe the pathogenesis of CSU and the role of the BTK pathway in the disease
  • Describe the underlying mechanism of action of BTK inhibitors being investigated for treatment of CSU
  • Evaluate current treatment gaps and how emerging BTK inhibitors may address treatment challenges in chronic urticaria.
