Trading Steroids for Targeted Topical Therapies: Clinical Pearls for Your AD, Psoriasis, and Seborrheic Dermatitis Patients

While corticosteroids hold a valuable place in the therapeutic toolkit for atopic dermatitis, psoriasis, seborrheic dermatitis, and similar conditions, targeted topical therapies may offer better options for individualized care. Non-steroidal targeted therapies allow for better efficacy, improved safety, long-term use, and treatment of sensitive regions of the skin. Health care professionals require expert guidance on clinical data for new and emerging targeted topical therapies and strategies for utilizing them to improve outcomes in adult and pediatric patients. This enduring, interactive monograph activity will provide learners with the most current data regarding topical therapies for common skin conditions. The activity includes expert dermatology faculty discussion of corticosteroid misuse and clinical evidence supporting the use of new and emerging non-steroidal, targeted topical therapies.

Target Audience

This activity is designed for an audience of US-based physicians, nurses and advanced practice providers (nurse practitioners and physician associates) of dermatology practice, including pediatric, adolescent, and adult dermatology.

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of the educational activity, participants should be better able to:

  • Critically analyze the clinical safety and efficacy data for current and emerging targeted topical therapies.
  • Utilize nonsteroidal treatment approaches to improve patient and disease outcomes.
