CMHC Masterclass On Demand: The Nexus of Women's Health and Cardiometabolic Risk- Implications Across the Lifespan
Metabolic syndrome and associated comorbidities, such as cardiovascular disease, obesity and type 2 diabetes, are becoming more common in women of reproductive age and beyond. In addition to traditional cardiometabolic risk factors, additional risk factors, including pregnancy-related outcomes, gestational diabetes mellitus, polycystic ovary syndrome, and hormonal replacement therapy, confer important implications on women's cardiometabolic health across the lifespan.
Additionally, suboptimal cardiometabolic health, often manifested as an increase in body weight and decrease in muscle mass and bone density, can often impact overall reproductive health. During this Masterclass meeting, multidisciplinary expert faculty will provide valuable clinical pearls on how to address these unique challenges.
Target Audience
Endocrinologists, obstetricians, gynecologists, midwives, diabetologists, primary care physicians, cardiologists, lipidologists, and as well as nurses, nurse practitioners, dieticians, and pharmacists.

- Discuss the epidemiology, impacts, demographics, and unique CVD risk factors in women across the age spectrum.
- Recognize and identify symptoms and the clinical presentation of acute and chronic CVD in women.
- Describe the risk of cardiometabolic disease in women due to PCOS and adverse pregnancy outcomes.
- Outline the cardiometabolic safety of postmenopausal hormone therapy and contraception.
- Identify individualized approaches for the screening and co-management of cardiometabolic risk and women’s health, including PCOS, postmenopausal symptoms, contraception, osteoporosis, infertility, and long-term pregnancy adverse outcomes.
