Communication and Healthcare Decision-Making
Impeccable communication with patients and families affected by serious illness as well as with colleagues is the cornerstone of palliative care. Clear and compassionate communication skills are essential when exploring patient and family goals, values, and preferences throughout the illness trajectory, and developing dynamic plans of care that are goal concordant. In this course, participants explore how to have effective and empathic conversations about serious illness focused on the shared decision-making process. Participants will learn the evidence-based best practices to deliver serious news, engage in advance care planning conversations, and facilitate family conferences.
