Foundations of Pediatric Dermatology Certificate Course
The Foundations of Pediatric Dermatology Certificate Course is a new, innovative on-line course that is self-paced, making it an easy and convenient option for busy health care professionals. The program is brought to learners by the creators of our annual Masters of Pediatric Dermatology (MOPD) Symposium and it features six in-depth modules designed to boost knowledge of some of the most common skin conditions that affect pediatric and adolescent patients. The program is complete with downloadable resources, modular assessment questions to gauge knowledge, and exclusive post-program “Ask the Professor” sessions.
Target Audience
These activities are designed for an audience of U.S. based Pediatricians, Physician Assistants, Nurse Practitioners, Registered Nurses, Residents and other healthcare professionals with an interest in Pediatric and Adolescent Dermatology.
Learning Objectives
After completing this activity, the participant should be better able to:
- Understand the events and causes involved in the development of acne lesions
- Review and understand pigmentary disorders, their classifications, and evidence-based guidelines for management
- Evaluate the evidence for emerging therapies in relation to acne and major pigmentary disorders
- Identify and describe the complex and multifactorial pathophysiology of atopic dermatitis
- Review and understand strategies for the management of atopic dermatitis and its associated comorbid conditions
- Develop treatment plans for patients with atopic dermatitis that reflect evidence-based guidelines and strategies to optimize short-term control and long-term management of the disease
- Define and describe the clinical presentations and features, natural history, and common complications of common skin conditions (i.e.: psoriasis, seborrheic dermatitis, pityriasis rosea, hives, drug reactions, etc.)
- Develop plans to improve adherence to evidence-based clinical guidelines in practice for common skin conditions
- Review current and emerging therapies that hold promise for the effective treatment of common skin conditions
- Examine and understand common skin conditions (i.e.: sun protection, diaper dermatitis, infantile hemangioma, etc.), their prevalence, and clinical presentations
- Review clinical guidelines for the management of common skin conditions
- Understand the clinical evidence and mechanisms of action of topical and/or systemic drugs used to treat common skin conditions
- Identify the etiology and pathophysiology of hair disorders and scalp conditions (i.e.: (alopecia arreata, hair loss, etc.)
- Examine and understand the typical presentations of hair disorders and scalp conditions
- Review the evidence and clinical guidelines for the management of hair disorders and scalp conditions
- Understand the causes of common dermatological infections (i.e.: impetigo, tinea, scabies, head lice, warts, molluscum, etc.)
- Review and understand the typical presentations of common dermatological infections and clinical guidelines for management
- Evaluate and understand current and future treatment options for dermatological infections

Activity Overview
The Foundations of Pediatric Dermatology Certificate Course is a six (6) module activity designed for any healthcare professional seeking to learn the fundamentals of pediatric dermatology and the core principles in the management and treatment of atopic dermatitis, acne and pigmentary disorders, hair and scalp disorders, molluscum and considerations in skin of color. The course will lecture on basic concepts and guide participants through interactive learning scenarios that provide the knowledge and tools necessary to work effectively in their respective practices and will culminate in a “When to Refer” guideline takeaway.

This activity is designed for an audience of US-based Pediatricians, Advanced Practice Providers, Physician Assistants, Residents and Fellows of dermatology practices that treat pediatric and adolescent patients.

Criteria for Success
To obtain a certificate of completion, a score of 70% or better on the post-test is required. Please proceed with the activity until you have successfully completed this program, answered all test questions, completed the post-test and evaluation, and have received a digital copy of your certificate.
