Managing Relapsing Remitting Multiple Sclerosis: Meet the Collaborative Care Team
This case-based presentation will provide an introduction to the roles of the collaborative team of physicians, nurses and physical therapists in the outpatient management of patients with multiple sclerosis (MS). The presenters will be a neurologist, a nurse and a physical therapist, all with extensive clinical experience working with patients with MS. Dr. Cameron, the team neurologist will start with a brief review of the clinical presentation of MS, followed by an overview of the team members and their roles. She will then present a focused discussion of the role of the physician as this relates to MS diagnosis, medication management and referral. Mr. McClaughry, the team nurse, will provide an overview of the role of the outpatient MS nurse and then focus on disaster planning for MS patients. Ms. Hugos, the team physical therapist, will provide an overview of the role of the outpatient MS physical therapist and then focus on virtual delivery of physical therapy, with specific examples from spasticity management and gait training programs. The presentation will end with an opportunity for questions and answers.
