Tapering Trials and Errors: What To Do When Nothing Seems To Work

What to do when nothing seems to work for patients with chronic pain? Is adding therapy the answer, or when does de-prescribing trump prescribing? This presentation will focus on a unique patient case and highlight the challenges that arise when medications are started by multiple different prescribers and when there is resistance to changing treatments, even when they may no longer be working for the patient.

Learning Objectives

  • Describe a standardized approach toward medication deprescribing
  • Understand how to approach tapers when no tapering guidelines exist
  • Reflect on ways to improve interprofessional collaboration in clinical practice
