OsteopathicYoga ™: Why Form Can Improve Dysfunction in Chronic Back Pain (II)

OsteopathicYoga ™ blends the medical principles of osteopathy with the mind-body practice of yoga. OsteopathicYoga™ optimizes the neuromuscular system as the foundation for healthy bodily function, and calls upon concepts from anatomy, physiology, neuroendocrinology, and neuroplasticity to improve physical and mental health. OsteopathicYoga ™ was created by Dr. M. Jasmine Silva, DO, who resourced her extensive experience and board certifications in pain medicine, addiction medicine, family medicine and osteopathic manual therapy to create a patient-accessible modality of wellness medicine. She is also a registered yoga instructor for the general, pediatric and perinatal populations. This lecture is one of a two-part series that reviews the current evidence and rationale for using yoga as an adjunctive pain treatment for common back pain complaints. Practicalities and case examples for how to utilize yoga in care planning around chronic pain and problematic opioid use will also be discussed.
