Neuroregulation: Keeping Your Brain Tidy and Organized

Advances in migraine management are rapidly becoming available. This is in part due to increased understanding of migraine pathophysiology and advances in pharmacology and technology. This influx in information provides new approaches and tools that can be offered to the individual suffering from migraine. Migraine is one of the world’s top-ranking disabling disorders, and therefore improved migraine control should not be underappreciated or overlooked. One area of treatment, neuromodulation, has not enjoyed the same level of attention as the new class of anti-CGRP antibodies and yet offers patients an alternative to medications for migraine control. To make good use of these tools and provide headache suffers with appropriate education, it is imperative health providers first understand migraine pathophysiology and establishment of the right diagnosis. With the understanding of the relationship of neuroregulation and available strategies for both prevention and acute migraine management, the provider will then have the confidence to offer appropriate neuromodulation therapies. Putting this new knowledge into practice, the application of neuroregulation strategies, including patient management, education, clinical pearls, and challenges will be included in this presentation.

Learning Objectives

  • Review migraine disorder and pathophysiology
  • Define neuromodulation and relationship to migraine control
  • Discuss the strategies and devices that may be used to promote neuromodulation and ultimately migraine control
