Go Ask Alice: Pain Management in the Older Adult

Overview

Does pain affect cognition? Does cognitive impairment affect one’s perception of pain? This course will examine the interface between these two common clinical conditions and its impact on patient care.

Learning Objectives

  • Describe components of a thorough pain assessment
  • Cite pain behaviors in cognitively impaired older adults
  • Describe the principles underlying nonpharmacologic and pharmacologic management of persistent pain
  • Discuss a novel way to view pain and memory
