Surveys of patients with chronic pelvic pain (CPP) consistently show that they feel dismissed, stigmatized, and marginalized by the same clinicians who are supposed to help in their care. Studies show that poor communication leads to poor satisfaction with care, fragmented care, and poor patient reported outcomes. This lecture will review how communication needs to change when addressing multi-modal treatment options for patients with CPP. This learning activity will be a highly interactive lecture that will focus on key factors that are linked to patient communication and can influence pain relief and patient satisfaction with care. Factors such as maximizing time, finding communication resources, and improving clinic efficiencies will also be discussed.
