The global impact of sickle cell disease can be seen with over 300,000 children born with sickle cell disease each year, and over 6 million people living with the disease. The importance of highlighting this condition must be taken into consideration. The disparities sickle cell disease patients continue to face offer us an insight into the complexities of proper management for this population. This course will dive into the current and emerging therapeutics for sickle cell disease, discussion and identification of barriers to treatment, describe ethical considerations for SCD patients, and management strategies for acute pain crisis in the ER.
